TONIGHT
Marc Mosko, 1996
Tonight, I will lay my head down softly.
I will ease my mind with patient breath.
I will cure my soul with tenderness.

All the hurts and wounds from daily life,
I will heal, ragged from the fight.

I lay down my arms, surrender. They have won.
For tonight.

In the twilight calm of consciousness,
When the body dies and the mind lives on.
In such a time as is now, I will
stop the world: forever and for now.

I will pause, reflecting on the stillness,
And alone, cast myself to oblivion.

I will clear my mind of anger and of pain.
I will dowse the fire, passion to one side.
In thoughtless isolation I reside,
Calmer, engulfed in no one's fight.

Then it's gone,
Trampled by Apollo's horses, raging on.
But I am better, stronger for the day,
'Till peace comes once again.

In my mind.
