A Maiden's Tear
Marc Mosko, 1992

Alone in the cold of Winter's death,
a hand of freezing fingers,
frightened, forlorn a maiden weeps,
tears to ice for her lover's death.

Red snow 'bout his body,
cut by iron deep,
death found in war.

She offers prayer for his soul,
then lays locks to still flesh,
to die with the year and be born not afresh.
