Death of a Friend
Marc Mosko, 1996

The loss of a friend is a tragic thing.
A companion weaves threads through all
parts of one's life.
A friend imbues a sensation through
one's soul.

To leave a friend leaves part of
one's self behind.
To deny a companion is to deny part
of one's self.

What should I do when a friend is
a lover no more?
How can I reconcile the loss of a
love with the retention of a friend?

To be a friend is to be a companion.
A companion with whom I spend my time.
A friend with whom I share myself.

But how can I enjoy those moments
when all I want to do is hug her?

The loss of a friend is a tragic thing.
More tragic than that of a lover.
The loss of a friend is the death of a part
of one's self.
